Melissa + Matt: Larkspur Maternity + Couple Portraits

I know it’s been awhile since our last blog post in the fall. Michelle has been dealing with some health issues from a bad case of pneumonia since October so we decided it would be best to take a little longer break than usual during the winter. We did make an exception back in January for our session with Melissa and Matt (Michelle’s sister and brother-in-law). While we usually don’t photograph maternity sessions until a month or two before the baby is due, this one was a bit out of the ordinary. Back in 2012 Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of only 29. She went through the whole gamut of surgery, chemo, radiation, etc hoping that it would keep the cancer from coming back. Unfortunately in early 2015, a few months after learning she was pregnant, she got the bad news that the cancer had returned and the best option was to go through a double mastectomy right away during her pregnancy. Obviously not the news anyone wants to hear especially when you are planning to bring a new life into this world! She went in for the surgery the end of January and has been doing awesome! We decided that before the surgery would be a better time to capture some photos of her and her new hubby Matt so the weekend before the surgery we lucked out with some nice weather and headed to Columbine Open Space just south of Castle Rock. It was a little muddy from the snow but I love this location even in the winter. We had fun taking pics of the two of them- even capturing a few “in between” goof off moments:-)They are expecting their first child in about two months now and can’t wait to be aunt & uncle to our new niece!

The Gates Family: Family Portraits in the Highlands Ranch BackCountry

What a perfect end to our 2014 family sessions! We had such a great time getting to take pictures of the Gates family up in the BackCountry of Highlands Ranch the first weekend in November. I’ve known Brandon all the way back to elementary school and it was so nice getting to see him again and meet his beautiful wife, their two adorable kiddos, and the awesome mustache he’s currently sporting  :-)  It’s always fun getting to do something a little different so we enjoyed getting to incorporate some indoor photos into our typical outdoor session. They have a gorgeous house in the BackCountry that made the perfect backdrop for half our session and then we headed up the way to finish the pictures outside with some leaves, mountains, and the scrub oak that looks so cool in the winter. We had the best time with them and I LOVE how the pictures turned out. We even got some fun ones of Max and Macey jumping on the trampoline in their backyard! Here’s some of our favorites from the day- had the hardest time not sharing more!

The Kowalczik Family: Littleton Fall Family Session

It’s always an honor to get to take pictures of another photographer especially when your “subject” is as talented as Kim who owns Element One Photography in Littleton. She was actually a bridesmaid in Cydney + Kiel’s wedding back in 2011 (one of our favorite weddings ever!) and so we were very excited to get the chance to photograph her beautiful family the last week of October. We had the perfect combination of a super good looking family, a couple who really knows how to pose, and the most beautiful sunset light in my favorite season of all- fall! Basically it would be impossible not to get gorgeous pictures of these guys! And did I mention how cute their little man Jett is?! We met up with them at South Platte Park in Littleton and I’ve got to say it’s a new favorite spot after both our sessions there that week. Thank you guys for allowing us to capture your beautiful family- enjoy the sneak peek!

Cydney + Kiel: Littleton Maternity Portraits

It’s hard to believe that 20 some odd years ago Cydney was my next door neighbor tattling to my mom about me not wanting to play and now I’m taking pictures of her and Kiel as they approach the day they will becomes parents themselves! After photographing their wedding in 2011 we’ve had many opportunities to work with Cydney as she’s the owner of Stiletto Events and Oakes Fields Floral but this was the first time since then that we’ve gotten to photograph her:-)Cydney + Kiel are expecting not just one but two babies in a matter of weeks and we are so excited for them! Not that anyone would guess she’s got two little ones in there because she looks amazing! They wanted to make the session more into a family session incorporating their doggies including their “firstborn” TC who was the cutest little grooms dog ever back at their wedding:-)We photographed their session at South Platte Park in Littleton which was perfect the last week in October- here’s some of our favorites!

Romero Family: Washington Park Family Photos

Our session with the Romero family started out a little rocky back in September. What was supposed to be a nice day ended with an unexpected downpour mid session. We managed to get a few photos before the weather turned on us including some cute pictures of their daughter Grace making funny faces at the camera in the rain:-)But our second time around turned out to be perfect! We had beautiful weather and since a few weeks had passed the leaves had changed quite a bit for a backdrop of fall colors. They have a beautiful little family and we had such a good time with them- we are so glad Tamia gave them our name! Grace is such a cutie and her expressions were so funny of her watching and trying to follow the geese at Washington Park. Here’s some of our favorites.

The Richens Family: Fall Portraits in Larkspur

It’s been a while since we’ve photographed the Richens family and their boys have definitely grown! Here’s a link to their first session over 4 years ago in 2010! We love getting together with these guys, there is always plenty of laughter to go around as well as making the kids do funny things and laughing at their amusement- particularly Mitchell’s “Gromit” smile (from Wallace and Gromit)- it’s adorable:-) We met up with them at Dawson Butte in Larkspur right when the fall leaves were at their best. I just love the combo of the field and forest you get there. Now that the kids are older I had some pretty in depth conversations with them about turning sticks into pretend weapons and about how cool Spider-Man really is (the parents are raising them right teaching them about superheroes and all)! Here’s some of our favorites!
