Just before the snow came in last week we were able to get one more “fall” session in. This time at a location we had scouted a couple years back but hadn’t had the opportunity to photograph yet. Minus trying to steer clear of the other half dozen photographers it was a perfect spot for a large group! Between the red barn, an old white farm house, the field etc it gave us plenty of variety without everyone having to hike a mile. While they have quite a few new members to their family since the last time we saw them, we have known the VanderHeiden family going on close to 2 decades. Well at least Michelle hasTom and Nancy have been good friends of Michelle’s family way back since she was in middle school. They were able to get their entire family and grandchildren together for a big family session that we had the pleasure of getting to capture for them. We had a great time with all of them and are so excited to get to share some of our favorite images from that afternoon! Such a beautiful family! Enjoy!
The best thing about photographing near sunset is that even when the leaves are mostly gone you can still get all sorts of beautiful colors regardless of the time of year! Last weekend we headed back to South Platte Park in Littleton- this time to meet up with Katie + Felix for their maternity session. In all the years of photographing weddings, Katie + Felix will always be among our favorite couplesWe could easily photograph these guys again and again- and there would never be a dull moment! They are expecting their first child, a little boy, just after the first of the year and we couldn’t be happier for them! Stella their puppy also came along for the session. I think she doesn’t realize she’s a bulldog though LOL. She was jumping over downed trees and running like the wind all without seeming to tire one bit- never seen so much energyWith her being so rambunctious Katie and Felix are definitely prepared for a baby. Here’s some of our favorites from the day- they brought along some cute props that made their session even more awesome! Congrats guys!!
Yes the name for this post is right- there are more Volkels out there. Okay actually these particular Volkels are relatedEver since my niece Hailey was born we’ve been wanting to get to photograph my brother and his family and this past weekend we got the chance! They made the drive down our way and we headed to Larkspur just before sunset. About halfway through we all learned that apparently Hailey LOVES rocking chairs. I think if we had let her she would have sat in that chair all day and all night. Which of course made for some adorable pictures of her since she was having the time of her life just rocking away. We made it to the open field right as the light created the most beautiful orange glow over the whole background- some of my favorites! So excited to share these photos with them and especially for the grandmas who have been waiting for these for a LOOOOOOOONG time 😉
We met the Romero Family last fall when they just had their daughter Grace and this year their family has grown to 4 with little Lucy- and what an adorable family they have! We photographed their session on Halloween last Saturday in the early morning. It was a little chilly to start the day but at least it did get warmer by the time we were finished and the late sunrise light coming through the trees made for some beautiful light to the photos! Most of our sessions are typically closer to sunset but this year our schedule has been so packed and a morning session just happened to work out perfectly for their family. Their little girls Grace and Lucy are such cuties! Lucy is about 4 months old and was so content almost the entire session! We are so grateful we got to photograph this time in their life and are excited to share some of our favorites from their session- enjoy!
I can’t believe it’s been over 6 years since we photographed Tammy + Greg’s wedding! It doesn’t really seem that long ago and we still remember how much we enjoyed getting to work with them back then. They had a beautiful wedding up at the YMCA in Granby (still one of our favorite wedding spots). Now their family has grown by one cute and energetic dog Franklin (who was hilarious and literally army crawled to photo bomb a picture that was supposed to be of just Tammy + Greg) and will be growing by one more family member later this month. We met them at DU for their maternity session a week ago and it was so nice seeing them again! We had perfect weather for late October and by the looks of many of the trees and the green grass you would almost think fall had just started. We’ve had two weddings over the years at DU but this was the first time we had the chance to photograph a portrait session there and without the rush of a wedding day we had the time to explore the campus and find new locations we never knew existed. We are so grateful we got to see Tammy + Greg again and are so happy for them! They are going to be amazing parents and that little one is a very blessed baby! Here’s a sneak peek from our day!
The day after Allison + Adam’s session in Larkspur we headed back down there again for our session with Sade but this time over to Columbine Open Space. Apparently everyone else decided it was a good day for a session there as well! There were probably 4 or 5 other photographers there that afternoon but with the wind and on and off sprinkles of rain we quickly had the place mostly to ourselves again (a little rain never hurt anyone right!?) Sade is a senior this year in Denver and I have a feeling she has modeled a few times before- she’s definitely a natural in front of the camera! We had a lot of fun with her and her mom Myriam that afternoon! We are so glad the weather did hold off and never fully rained on us but the clouds did make for cool looking skies for some of our pictures. We were even able to incorporate some images with a cap and gown to change things up a bit. Sade is an artist and we were fortunate that Myriam shared a few images of Sade’s paintings with us. She definitely has a talent for it so hope she continues to pursue that passion! Nothing better than being able to express your creativity in art! Here’s some of our favorites from the day
It’s always a lot of fun getting to photograph another photographer. I’ve known Adam going on 2 years now and we tend to have similar styles with our own work and with our taste in photography as a whole. One of the biggest drawbacks for not photographing weddings anymore is that it also means we don’t get the opportunity to photograph engagement sessions as often. After 10 years it’s still one of our favorite things to photograph so I was really glad when Adam asked if we’d take engagement portraits for him and his lovely bride-to-be Allison. Since they both love the Colorado outdoors, and nothing is better than fall colors, we met up with them at Dawson Butte in Larkspur last weekend and caught the fall foliage at it’s best! After years of photographing I tend to rely on the same lens for the majority of my shooting (70-200mm 2.8L IS) but since Adam is a photographer, Michelle forced me to use the opportunity to get out of my typical mindset and ONLY use our 50mm 1.2L the entire shoot. That meant I couldn’t just stay in one spot and zoom in and zoom out which challenged me but got me thinking outside my typical “box”. We’re so happy for these two and hope they have an amazing wedding next summer! SOOO excited to show off some of our favorites from their session!
