Tarika: Denver Actress Headshots

A few weeks back we met Tarika to take some acting headshots for her portfolio. In addition to acting she works with the Nathan Yip Foundation who we had the pleasure of getting connected with a few years back after a friend and one of our favorite brides (Hanako) introduced us to this wonderful organization. Tarika needed some headshots for her acting portfolio but while we were out taking photos we also took some additional portraits that she could use outside of just her portfolio. She wanted an urban look for the images and the lower Highlands neighborhood of Denver was the perfect location- I think this is one of my favorite places in Denver to shoot!  It was a tad windy and as soon as the sun started setting it went from a pretty nice day to COLD really fast (it was the end of October so I guess we can’t complain too much). We had a great time working with her and found some really cool places we hadn’t photographed before. Tarika was so nice and as the photos show obviously very photogenic! Here’s some of my favorites- enjoy!

Anna Bé: Her Life Magazine October Trendsetter

I know I haven’t posted our September cover yet for Her Life Magazine and usually try to post them in order but since the 2011 wedding season just ended and the start of the 2012 wedding planning is underway I think it’s only appropriate to post our October Trendsetter for Anna Bé first. If you’re planning a 2012 summer wedding and not wanting to purchase a wedding dress “off the rack” now is the time to order your dress so what better time to show some awesome dresses to give you some inspiration. I LOVED the dresses we got to use for this photo shoot! No cliché wedding gowns you’ve seen hundreds of times on bride after bride. The idea behind the shoot was centered around the 1920’s with a modern spin. It was great to get to work with male models as well for this one to change things up. Other than our AWESOME models I have to say this shoot was one of my most challenging to date. I personally am happy with the end result of the images but nothing seemed to go right for this one the day of. You won’t typically hear me complain about photography (other than it is a LOT of work- I LOVE it anyway) but I think sometimes it’s okay to share that not everything goes smoothly every time and like most people’s jobs we have days that it just seems like our boss and the world are against us and this just happened to be one of those days. Everything from being told from the venue midway through the shoot that we weren’t allowed to use the fog machine, accidentally pulling a cord that brought one of my lights crashing down, rushing through the second half of the shoot due to some delays in getting ready, being told to keep my day job (as a firefighter) and some troubles working with the clients were all part of our day. I was definitely ready to hang up the camera for good after this one but I think in the end that the pictures turned out great (even if it’s just my opinion). Here’s some of my favorites- would love some feedback on this one!

Baby Doe’s Clothing: Denver Fashion Photographer

The September Trendsetter for Her Life Magazine is one of my favorite to date. We’ve had a lot of fun photographing the fashion spread each month but this one we kept so simple and relaxed that I don’t think the afternoon could have been any better. For the September issue we worked with Baby Doe’s Clothing out of Golden Colorado. Besides the fact that they carry some really nice clothing for women, the owner Nancy is such a sweetheart! It was so nice to have her there for the shoot that day right in the heart of downtown Golden. I LOVE shooting in Golden so it was perfect that she wanted to incorporate the town into the photos. Our models Heather and Tina were so awesome to work with as well! We wanted this shoot to be very relaxed to fit the style of clothing and picked two ladies who had beautiful smiles. We knew we wanted to have several images with the two models paired together so tried to find girls that looked like they could be friends and sure enough the two got along great- you’d never know they just met that day! It was nice to not have to carry around any lighting equipment this time- just used natural light with a little help from a simple bounce to get that nice catchlight in the eyes for a few photos. Erica Cobb: Her Life Magazine August Cover Girl

A few months back we had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful Erica Cobb from Denver’s own Alice 105.9 morning show with BJ, Howie, & Erica. Not only is Erica beautiful but she was so easy to work with and is just as nice as can be- Michelle and I had a great time getting to meet her that day! We met Erica at her place in Denver for the shoot and right away knew it was going to be the perfect location. The building has so many great features including an awesome waterfall along a wall out on the terrace that we could have photographed in front of all day. Since Erica competes in fitness competitions and is in great shape we knew we also wanted to include a few photos of her in the gym and fortunately we had the room all to ourselves to snap a few photos of her “working out”. I don’t think you could possibly take a bad photo of Erica and we had a tough decision choosing which ones we wanted to end up in the August issue for Her Life Magazine. Here’s a few images that made it to print and a few additional favorites that didn’t. It’s New to Me: Her Life August Trendsetter

It’s been a busy couple of months and I can’t believe it’s already September! Where the heck did the summer go? We’ve got a bunch of blogging to catch up on so check back frequently over the next week or so for several posts from the past two months.

A few months back we photographed the August Trendsetter for Her Life Magazine up in Evergreen for a furniture consignment store called It’s New to Me. Trying to come up with a way to photograph this shoot was not an easy task. We knew that we needed to keep the focus of the shoot on the furniture but also wanted to make sure that it remained a “fashion” piece at the same time. Adding to the difficulty of the shoot was that we needed to photograph in the store and the store had LOTS of inventory in a small space all covered with price tags. Let’s just say the final images had more photoshop than most any shoot we’ve ever done trying to remove all those price tags! We opted to make the shoot have a little bit of a “dark” feel to it hoping that it would keep the images from looking too commercial like you’d see in a furniture ad and look more like a fashion piece that it was intended to be. Our model Christa from Access World Talent did a great job for us and was wonderful to work with! We had a great time despite the small work space and the shop has some really cool stuff as well as a very sweet owner who we were so glad we got to meet and work with.
