With today being Halloween I figured this session was only fitting. This is probably one of my very favorite family sessions we’ve photographed to date. What’s better than costumes for a photoshoot?! Krista is a very talented photographer and I have to say it’s a little intimidating to be asked to photograph for a fellow photographer but at the same time the ultimate compliment! We met a few years back at a workshop and I really enjoyed getting to know her over those few days. When she contacted us for a family session to celebrate her and her husband Jeff’s 10 year anniversary I was so excited to hear the ideas she had planned. This was not your typical family session. Since it was for a big occasion they wanted to dress in formal attire and with it being October then include a few with their Halloween costumes. We had such a great time with the Cooley family- the kids are adorable and I couldn’t help but laugh while taking pictures of them in their awesome costumes! The session was shot over two days since midway through our original shoot at the South Platte Reservoir the wind and rain came in blowing like crazy! They had a really cool old Mustang that we were able to capture a couple pictures next to right as the rain & wind really picked up. We hid under the bridge for a few final shots and then decided we’d finish another day down at my new favorite spot in Castle Rock. Fortunately the weather was beautiful for the second day! Thanks guys for two very fun afternoons and congrats on 10 years!!

Moving to Castle Rock has been a big reminder that we live in a beautiful state we often take for granted. We love to walk trails and so of course had to find some new places to explore after moving down here. Over and over we drove by a trail whose parking lot was always packed and we were curious what the deal was. While it’s a beautiful place to walk we couldn’t believe we found a new place to photograph that was so close to home. We knew it would be perfect for family portraits in particular so we recommended it to our friends and one of our very favorite families- the Foxes. The weather couldn’t have been nicer the last weekend in September when we took these pictures. We absolutely love these guys and are so glad God brought them into our lives back in 2009. Little Ethan “E” is getting so big! It’s exciting to see him grow and now be able to walk and run. It’s crazy to think back just about a year and a half ago we were taking maternity pics for them. Like always we had a wonderful time with them and have been anxiously awaiting sharing these pictures. Here’s just a glimpse into our afternoon.
Earlier in the year you may recall we photographed Matt & Kristie while she was pregnant for a couple’s maternity session. Well, their little man entered the world about 6 months ago now and this time we had the chance to photograph the three of them- Matt, Kristie and baby Ethan. He’s adorable!!! We’ve know this awesome couple for a few years now after photographing their wedding and their not just clients but friends. They recently started a fellowship prayer group that we were able to join and are so glad to have them in our lives! Anyway, the first week of November on the first day of the time change we met up at Daniels Park for pictures. I always forget just how fast the sun sets this time of year and especially that first day when we lose an hour of light in the evening. We actually got some pretty awesome backlit images as the sun was going down but it soon got really cold so we cut the session short and headed back to the house for just a few photos of Ethan while we had a little bit of daylight left. We’ll be taking a few more pics since our session got cut short but I loved these ones we got that day. Everyone was troopers with that cold air coming in especially Kristie in a dress! (Michelle was freezing even with gloves and a jacket). Here’s some of my favorites- stay tuned for the rest!
While there may be a few kids who are fairly neutral when it comes to having their picture taken most kids fall into one of two categories- those who hate it and those who could smile all day long posing for the camera. Our little Goddaughter Berlin is definitely the latter. We’ve known the Kitchens family since I started my current “day job” several years back and have been great friends ever since. They moved to Colorado from Texas back then but unfortunately only stayed for a little while before moving back to their home state. We miss having them here but LOVE getting to spend time with them every time they visit Colorado. It’s been amazing to watch their daughter Berlin grow- from a little miracle baby born just a bit over 2 lbs to now a 3 year old full of energy with the biggest smile ever! Back in October they came out to visit for a family vacation and while this wasn’t a planned photo shoot we decided since it was such nice weather that we’d love to take some family pictures for them. I have to smile every time I see that big grin on Berlin’s face. We just love this family and are so blessed to have them in our lives. Love you guys!!
We’ve known the Mooney family since the beginning of 2005 when I started my “day job” working with David. In 2006 we had the pleasure of photographing their wedding (with film!) and we’ve had the chance to watch their family grow over the years first with Ethan and then with Makayla (we absolutely adore these kids). We’re very blessed to have this wonderful family in our lives and love getting to photograph them every chance we get. This year we waited until the fall for their family portraits and as anyone living in Colorado can agree this was one of the most beautiful fall’s we’ve had in I can’t remember how long! Of course it had to end with a nice foot of snow to cover what was left of all the seasonal colors but we took these photos a few days before that happened. I think these have to be my favorites we’ve ever taken for the Mooney’s. We met near the South Platte Reservoir for their session the last week of October. We’d been to that location two other times but never this time of year. All the yellows in the trees made the perfect fall backdrop for their pictures. We had such a good time and just love these guys! We could have been out all day taking pictures for them- here’s a glimpse into our day.
It’s crazy how fast kids grow! Back in January we met Nami & John, Nami’s mother, and their two adorable little boys, Mason & Tyler at their home for baby pictures of little Mason. Now little Mason is running around everywhere keeping his parents on their feet chasing after him. We were so excited to meet up with this sweet family again for their family pictures at Cherry Creek North. I LOVE photographing at Cherry Creek North and for a family session it was even better. Most of the time we tend to stick to more “Colorado” type locations for family pictures so it’s fun when people choose an area that’s a little different than the norm. Fortunately the weather cooperated right through the end of the month so we had perfect weather for their session right before the snow came in. We had a wonderful time working with all of them and of course what fall session would be complete without letting the kids play in the leaves? Here’s some of our favorites from the day from this beautiful family. Thanks guys for the fun afternoon!
January has been a busy month for us- it’s hard to imagine that it’s already over and we’re now in February! A couple weeks ago we had the pleasure of meeting Nami & John and their two adorable boys, Mason & Tyler. Mason is a little under six months old and was all smiles almost the entire session! His big brother Tyler kept us entertained while we gave Mason a few breaks from the camera and made the day that much more fun. We had such a great time photographing their family and love the way the photos turned out! Everyone was so nice and so easy to work with. We’re really excited to get to work with them again later this summer when we take pictures of the whole family together. Can’t wait to work with them again!
